Anxiety is an excessive worry or fear that can influence your life to that extent that it starts to interfere wit the daily life activities at work or relationships.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder

People with generalised anxiety are nervous and worry for small issues. It’s overwhelming, consuming and hard to escape. It takes your breath away with zero effort, and leaves you feeling completely exhausted. He /she worries excessively for irrelevant things., expecting the worst out of every situation and unnecessarily predicting that something terrible is going to happen to them or their family. Chronic anxiety can have physical manifestations like frequent headaches, bowel and bladder disturbances, lack of concentration and tiredness without doing any work. If anxiety worsens they can have panic attacks.

Social anxiety disorder

Some people have anxiety only in social situations like talking in groups or on a stage. Then its called Social anxiety disorder.

Diagnosis of GAD is based on a thorough clinical interview and diagnostic guidelines. Your doctor will ask questions about your symptoms and take a medical, psychiatric and social history.

GAD treatment comprises based on the severity, mild form of anxiety can receive counselling sessions where relaxation exercises, breathing techinques are taught. Cognitive Behavioral therapy helps one to change and direct ones thoughts to more compatible ones.

Moderate to severe anxiety can be alleviated with medications such as SSRIs and Benzodiazepines, along with psychotherapy sessions.
